About artist Patty Fleckenstein

I have been drawing and creating pictures since childhood. From life, from imagination, from photographs, and a combination of these. From doodles to detailed paintings and a vast variety of subject matter in between. I like to work in different artists’ media, primarily pen & ink, pencil, watercolor, and oil & acrylic paints. I love the wet-on-wet painterly, almost sculptural feel of oil and acrylic for my non-commissioned “free” work, or fine art.

I use pen & ink or pen & ink with watercolor for my House Portraits and my book illustration, because it feels so natural for fine, detailed work. I prefer pencil for my People and Pet Portraits because of its’ softness and flexibility. People and Pet Portraits in color are usually done in pencil with watercolor. I have also done some portraits as acrylic paintings.

I’m a Central New York native and have lived and worked here most of my life. I lived a few years in Brooklyn, N.Y. where I was a student at the Pratt Institute. I have participated in many regional art shows, including juried exhibitions; even earning some awards for my art along the way. I also illustrated some books for Mc-Graw Hill Publishers and a project for Hampton-Brown Publishers. In addition, I illustrated four storybooks for a local author, The Richie Bear series, and many more commissioned art works over the years.

It is my hope and intention that my art work will speak for itself.
